A solid foundation can even out skin tone, cover blemishes, and give the complexion a luminous glow. It’s often a makeup bag staple, and a must-have for photo shoots, weddings, or other special occasions.

A favorite of Kardashian sister Kourtney, this foundation provides a photogenic finish that looks flawless up close and from far away. The lightweight formula covers dark spots and redness without settling in fine lines.

1. YSL All Hours Foundation

The All Hours Foundation is a full-coverage matte liquid foundation from the YSL beauty line. It has been touted as a long-wearing formula that stays on the skin all day and night without wearing or flaking. The All Hours Foundation isn’t the most beginner-friendly formula out there, but those who have the money to spend and can follow a few makeup 101 tips will find it to be well worth it.

Aside from being a long-wearing foundation, the All Hours Foundation is also waterproof and transfer-resistant. It can withstand even the most sweaty of workouts without ever needing a touch-up. The All Hours Foundation is available in a range of shades, including fair, medium, and dark. It is recommended that you choose a shade based on your natural complexion and avoid choosing one that is too light or dark for you.

The foundation comes in classic chic French designer brand packaging. It is a frosted rectangular bottle with a black lid and the label’s logo wrapped around two sides of the bottle. It also has a pump to easily dispensate the foundation. The packaging feels heavy and luxurious, which is the type of experience you would expect from a high-end foundation.

Like most other YSL foundations, the All Hours Foundation has a faint but pleasant powdery scent to it. The foundation has a creamy, velvety texture that is thick enough to achieve good medium coverage and can be built up to full coverage. The foundation can be used with a brush, beauty blender, or fingertips. Glide the All Hours Foundation from the center of your face outward to unify your complexion. If you want a fuller coverage, use the beauty blender or your fingertips with a dabbing motion.

The All Hours Foundation is formulated with Hyaluronic Acid, which provides all-day hydration and skin care benefits. It is also infused with Jasmine Petal for an ultra-sensorial skin on skin sensation and a naturally luminous matte makeup result. This foundation is transfer-proof, water-proof, and heat-resistant for up to 24 hours of wear.

2. Lancome Teint Miracle

A luminous formula that recreates the inner light of perfect skin. The complexion appears flawless and luminous as if lit-from-within.

This foundation contains pearlescent pigments which create a natural and dewy finish. It is also infused with rose extract and high concentrations of water to leave the complexion looking refreshed and radiant. It is also oil-free and fragrance-free so it’s great for those with sensitive skin. The only downside is that it does contain alcohol which some people avoid because they feel like their face will fall apart once the product touches their skin but I don’t mind it unless the concentration of it is very high and isn’t balanced with other skin-conditioning ingredients.

I’ve been using this foundation for a couple of months now and it’s definitely one of my favourites, especially for summer or any time when I want to look more radiant and fresh. It has a very lightweight feel to it which I really enjoy and you can build up coverage if needed but it doesn’t look cakey at all. It also doesn’t oxidize or fade and is very comfortable on the skin. It is a little more pricey than other foundations but I think it is definitely worth the money as Lancome does an amazing job with their products and this is no exception.

It’s a bit different from their other foundation, Teint Idole, in the sense that it is more medium to full coverage and matte whereas Miracle is sheer and luminous. I’ve found that I can use both depending on what type of look I’m going for on a given day and they blend beautifully together.

The best thing about this foundation is how it looks on the skin, particularly in low lighting conditions. It’s extremely luminous and I find that it makes my skin glow without making me look too “done” which is something I struggle to find with other foundations. It’s also very easy to apply and blend. You can use your fingers or any foundation brush and it will blend seamlessly.

This foundation is available at all Lancome counters and retails for RM130/30ml. It comes in a glass bottle with a pump and I think it’s a great option for those who prefer a light to medium coverage and who love a dewy look.

3. Pat McGrath Labs Liquid Foundation

A long-wearing liquid foundation that’s loved by pros for its photogenic finish that looks flawless up close, this beauty is a staple in the make-up bags of celebrity and bridal makeup artists. The versatile formula can be used as a concealer or mixed with moisturizers to create a sheer tint and works to blur redness and imperfections, leaving a natural-looking, dewy glow that won’t look greasy or cakey. It also boasts a convenient pen tip that dispenses exactly the amount you need, making it perfect for on-the-go touch ups.

Featuring a wide shade range that includes cool, neutral and warm complexions, this foundation is one of our top picks for women of all skin colors. It has a lightweight texture that blends in easily and leaves a natural, matte finish that won’t settle into fine lines or pores. Its formula is made with a combination of anti-aging and skin-loving ingredients like biomimetic oat, Japanese lilyturf, cacao peptides and milk thistle to help protect skin from the effects of environmental stressors.

InStyle’s test team rated this foundation high for its color range, coverage, active ingredients and overall wear. It’s formulated with skin-benefiting ingredients like hyaluronic acid and ceramides to plump and nourish the complexion while improving skin texture and blurring redness. It’s also infused with antioxidants to fight the signs of aging and protect against UV damage.

This oil-free foundation was a tester favorite for its weightless, natural-looking finish and easy-to-blend formula. It also passed our oily skin and sweat tests, making it a great choice for summer.

It’s infused with soothing and healing ingredients like aloe vera, vitamin C, licorice extract and shea butter to reduce the appearance of redness and blemishes, while antioxidant-rich apricot kernel oil protects against sun damage. We’ve also found that this foundation lasts all day, even in humidity.

The “mother of make-up” herself, Pat McGrath, has a knack for magicing dull skin back to life with her coveted line of cosmetics. This foundation mimics her work, delivering a radiant finish that blurs imperfections and gives the skin a healthy glow.

4. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua

For a smooth, even complexion, this lightweight foundation blends into the skin with ease. Its formula covers redness, dark spots, and discoloration without looking cakey or highlighting wrinkles. After a month of use, our tester loved how easy it was to get an everyday look with this formula and found that it helped cut down on their morning routine by eliminating the need for concealer. The one downside to this product is that it doesn’t come with SPF in the formula, so you’ll need to add your own.

This popular TikTok favorite is a great choice for those with blemish-prone skin, as it provides reliable full coverage while also hydrating the complexion. Its hydrating ingredients include biomimetic oat to reduce redness and Japanese lilyturf to strengthen the complexion’s moisture barrier. The formula is infused with cacao peptides to boost radiance, and milk thistle and arnica help soothe the complexion. It’s also a great choice for oily skin, as it contains three different oil absorbers to resist water, sweat, and transfer.

The best thing about this foundation is that it can be used for both matte and dewy looks, depending on your preference. Its light-reflecting pigments and hydrating glycerin help to blur imperfections, while its unique texture ensures that it won’t settle into or highlight fine lines and wrinkles.

While the Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua may be a little pricey, it’s worth it for those who want a long-wearing and high-performing foundation. The packaging is a bit different from other Chanel products, as it doesn’t have the typical glass bottle. Instead, it comes in a plastic container that is much easier to carry around.

The Good Apple Serum Foundation from KVD Beauty is an excellent option for those with blemish-prone complexions. The lightweight formula has a serum-like consistency that nourishes the complexion and delivers impressive coverage, while apple extract and glycerin help to keep the skin moisturized and prevent oil production. Its non-comedogenic, oil- and fragrance-free ingredients are ideal for those with sensitive skin, too. It also has a handy pen applicator that helps to make the application process go smoothly and quickly.
