Mothers Day

In modern times the holiday became popular in the US thanks to Anna Jarvis, who held a memorial service for her mother in 1907. Her lobbying of President Woodrow Wilson helped the event become official in 1914.

Throughout the centuries people have been honoring mothers in many different ways. Here are some fun ideas to celebrate mom this year:

1. Say “I Love You”

For all the mothers out there, Mother’s Day is a great day to let them know how much they are loved and appreciated. Moms are always there for us no matter what, and it’s important to show them our love back.

The holiday we now know as Mother’s Day was first celebrated by Ann Reeves Jarvis in Grafton, West Virginia, in 1907. After her mother’s death, Anna launched a campaign to honor mothers and to promote peace.

Whether she loves words or a good teddy bear, we have plenty of creative ways to say “I love you” this Mother’s Day. Try one of our sentimental cards.

2. Give a Gift

Make your mom’s day extra special by gifting her a thoughtful treat. Whether you’re on a tight budget or want to show your love with something big, these ideas are sure to be appreciated.

Give her a unique way to hold on to her favorite recipes with this DIY recipe ring. She’ll appreciate this cute, customizable gift year-round.

Sew her a set of stylish reusable cloth napkins she can use to run errands, spend time at the beach or lounge around the house. Decorate them with her favorite colors or patterns. Mom will think of you every time she uses them!

3. Make a Gift

Moms love homemade gifts from the heart. If you’re a crafty family, work together to create something special for Mom.

Paint a mug she can use for coffee or tea. Then, add a special message, like “I Love You” or a funny quote she loves.

Make a cherished keepsake using your child’s handprint or a simple DIY bookmark. Both are fast and easy, and Mom will adore these special handmade Mother’s Day gifts.

Give Mom a gift she can take to the beach or the park with her friends. Pack a blanket and sun protection for an afternoon of relaxing in the sun.

4. Take a Walk

Mother’s Day is a great opportunity to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature. Take a scenic hike in a local park or state park.

If you’re in the mood for more of a challenge, try something that will get your heart pumping, like a jog or run around your neighborhood. This is a wonderful way to exercise and bond with mom while feeling accomplished!

Does she love to be crafty? Sign her up for a painting class or another hobby workshop. Whether she’s an expert or a beginner, she’ll appreciate the time to pursue her passion.

5. Go for a Picnic

Whether it’s brunch in the park or a picnic under a tree at the beach, moms will love a meal outside. Keep the menu simple to cut down on containers and utensils, and make it kid-friendly by including easy-to-eat foods.

Alternatively, take her to a restaurant for a fancy brunch or luncheon. If the weather isn’t cooperating, a backyard BBQ or an indoor party at her house can be just as fun.

For an extra special treat, surprise her with a bouquet of flowers that lasts up to three times longer than traditional ones. You can also create a mimosa bar for a delicious Mother’s Day drink.

6. Get Creative

When planning Mother’s Day activities, think outside the box of tried-and-true brunch, spa and manicure gifts. Moms appreciate unique surprises that reflect their interests and give them quality time with loved ones.

Try a crafty project together, such as decorating candles or a framed piece of spring DIY art. Or, encourage kids to make her coupons she can cash in for chores, breakfast in bed or extra family time.

If she loves to cook, plan a meal together and then host an afternoon board game marathon or a family game night. You can also offer a service that makes her life easier, such as a clean house or a professionally organized closet.
