CHI Hair Care is a Houston-based brand founded in 1986 by Farouk Shami. Featuring revolutionary heat styling technology, the CHI hair products and tools yield perfection.

CHI’s clarifying shampoo is a must-have for detoxing your locks. It removes excess dirt and oil, revealing the lustrous beauty of your strands.

Keratin

Keratin is a natural protein that is found in our hair, skin and nails. It acts as a protective layer to the hair cuticle and makes your tresses look shiny, smooth and healthy. Keratin hair care products are very popular right now, and there are a lot of options out there. Many of them promise to strengthen your hair, give it more shine and help you avoid frizz. However, a lot of them have a high level of formaldehyde. This chemical has been linked to a variety of health issues, including cancer, and it can damage your hair and lungs if used regularly. Fortunately, there are also safer and gentler at-home keratin treatments that can offer similar results without the dangerous chemicals.

A keratin treatment involves applying a solution to the hair to make it smoother and easier to style. This type of treatment is popular among women with thick, coarse or curly hair. It can also help reduce the amount of heat that is needed to style the hair, which can improve its overall condition. However, it is important to use a good quality product that does not contain any formaldehyde or other harmful ingredients. If you are going to get a keratin treatment, it is best to avoid using any other hair products for a few days before and after the procedure. This will allow the keratin to set in properly and minimize any potential damage.

CHI has several products that contain keratin, including its keratin reconstructing shampoo and keratin K-Trix 5 Smoothing Treatment. The keratin reconstructing shampoo gently cleanses the hair while replenishing its natural keratin levels. It also helps prevent future damage by strengthening the hair cuticle and sealing it. The keratin K-Trix 5 smoothing treatment is a heat-activated formula that will leave your hair silkier, softer and more manageable. It will also protect your hair from further damage by locking in moisture and preventing humidity from getting into the hair shafts.

While a keratin hair treatment can be beneficial for some people, it is important to consider the health of your hair and body before deciding whether this type of treatment is right for you. It is also a good idea to find a cruelty-free keratin product, as this will not involve any animals in the production process.

Jojoba

Jojoba hair care has become a popular choice for many. It is a liquid wax ester that comes from the seeds of a plant called Simmondsia chinensis. This desert shrub is native to the southwestern United States and parts of Mexico, but is also cultivated worldwide. Its oil has a natural golden color and a slightly nutty smell. Jojoba has a lot in common with your skin’s sebum, which is why it has been used as a scalp moisturizer for centuries. Jojoba oil can help maintain your scalp’s pH balance without triggering your glands to produce more or less sebum. It can even help to reduce dandruff and soothe dry scalp.

In addition to its moisturizing properties, jojoba can also strengthen your hair by creating a protective barrier around each strand. This helps to reduce frizz and flyaways while leaving your hair looking shiny. Unlike some oils, jojoba does not penetrate the cuticle of your hair, so it will not make your hair feel greasy or oily. This is particularly beneficial for those with fine, flat hair.

Another benefit of jojoba is that it helps to prevent damage caused by heat and styling. This is because the oil has a very similar structure to sebum, which helps to seal in moisture and minimize breakage. It can also help to restore your hair’s shine by filling in the cracks of each strand.

Like other oils, jojoba can be applied to your hair and scalp either as a standalone treatment or in a hair conditioner. Sivasothy and Rodney recommend applying a few drops of jojoba to your palm, rubbing them together, and then massaging it into your scalp and strands. You can apply it to your hair both on wet or dry strands, but it’s best to use it on damp strands since it absorbs more easily.

Keep in mind that a little goes a long way with jojoba oil, so be careful not to overdo it. If you apply too much, your strands will end up looking greasy and heavy. Instead, start with a small amount and massage it into your hair at the ends first before working it up to the roots. This will ensure that you’re using the right amount for your specific hair type and length.

Argan Oil

CHI Argan Oil is a lightweight, quick-absorbing blend of oils that’s specially formulated to rejuvenate and moisturize dull, damaged hair while protecting it against damage caused by thermal styling tools and UV rays. Rich in antioxidants and vitamin E, it gives hair a healthy-looking shine and movement while helping to fight frizz. It’s also great for fighting split ends.

The CHI Argan Oil line consists of a shampoo, conditioner and argan oil that intensively nourish the hair. It’s suitable for all hair types but especially dry, damaged and brittle. The shampoo is enriched with moringa oil and argan oil to optimally hydrate the hair while the conditioner nourishes and leaves it free of fluff. The argan oil is perfect for rehydrating and nourishing the hair after using the shampoo and conditioner or just to apply to strands as a pre-shampoo treatment before going to bed for intense hydration and nourishment.

Both Hughes and Fitzsimons agree that applying argan oil to damp strands before using heat-styling tools will help prevent heat damage and reduce the appearance of split ends. They also recommend using argan oil as a leave-in conditioner after your hair is dry. “You can also add a few drops to your shampoo for a nourishing scalp treatment, but it’s important to be careful with this since fine hair can get too greasy from overuse,” explains Hughes.

Although argan oil can improve the look of your hair and tame frizz, it won’t promote faster growth. According to Khetarpal, this is because the oil doesn’t moisturize the scalp as well as other oils, like jojoba or coconut, and it may promote seborrheic dermatitis (a yeast-like condition that causes dandruff) if used too frequently.

This head-to-toe oil is an all-in-one treatment for the hair and body, containing a combination of rosehip, argan, and coconut oils that do it all. The nourishing oil tames frizz, locks in moisture, and protects against UV and free-radical damage, while the rosehip and argan oils repair and strengthen strands. The result is smooth, soft strands with an insane amount of shine.

Silk

Silk is one of the toughest natural fibers known to man and this is why it’s used in many beauty products, including CHI hair treatments. Silk is full of amino acids that can help strengthen and protect hair from the effects of heat styling and environmental stressors like wind and sun. This can also help tame frizz and flyaways for a smoother, more manageable look. Silk is the main ingredient in CHI’s BioSilk therapy product, which works at improving the natural structure of hair by delivering a healthy dose of moisture.

The BioSilk product is a rich leave-in treatment that combines silk, wheat and soy proteins to help reinforce the hair and provide strength against breakage and dryness. It’s the perfect treatment for anyone who’s had their hair damaged from coloring, highlighting, perms, relaxers or sun damage. It can also help tame frizz, reduce static and add incredible softness and shine without any build up.

In addition to strengthening and nourishing hair, silk is a natural water-binding agent that helps to keep hair hydrated. It’s especially effective in low humidity as it can suck in and lock in moisture, keeping the hair soft and supple. The amino acids in silk also help the hair retain its color and prevent fading.

Hydrolyzed silk protein has the ability to replenish the hair with cysteine, which is one of the four amino acids needed for production of new keratin protein. When used in conjunction with other ingredients such as jojoba oil, it can enhance the overall health of the hair by improving elasticity and preventing damage.

Another way to get the benefits of silk is by sleeping on a silk pillowcase. Unlike regular pillowcases, silk pillows help tame frizz and promote healthier strands by allowing them to breathe while protecting against friction.

For a quick at-home silk treatment, apply a dime to quarter size amount of CHI Silk Infusion on clean hair, wrap with a towel for 10-15 minutes and wash it out. For the best results, use it on a regular basis and always before blow drying or heat styling your hair.
